Rough start. Love studying story and creating characters. They’re super rough. I cant wait to create final character boards.

I’m happy and making a living through art. Upset I can’t animate without the hardware and software, I begin marching a path to not only get those materials, but to start cutting towards the entertainment industry. I started studying on my own, creating characters, and writing. An artist’s work is never done.

Good Times! I had a job, I had my own studio, I was dating, freelancing on the side. Between tattoo designs, comics, conventions, and graphic design - I was finally feeling like I can get my life on track. And then in 2013 my computer crashed… for the 3rd time. There was no coming back this time. Still with student loans looming overhead - I was broke and any digital work and animation I worked on died. I lost work, I lost clients. I had to work exclusively traditional.

My illustrations are getting better and inking was struggling to get off the ground. Big mix of comic and tattoo sketches in here. In retrospect: A lot of work that never went anywhere in here. A lot of naiveté. The Lord Canti print remains a fan favorite to this day.

Pre-and-Post-Graduation sketches. I can remember my eagerness to get an opportunity in the Animation Industry. This book reveals a lot of little hustles I did to find any work I could get. I was lucky to get a job as a graphic designer at a screen printing shop for $10 an hour. I was very hungry here. The end of this book shows my first time embracing inks because I knew Pencils weren’t going to cut it for my first outing at a booth on Free-Comic-Book-Day. Tattoo Inking differs from Comic Book Inking. Growth…

My first sketchbook from Senior year in high school. I was working at Dunkin’ Donuts, playing PS2, had just discovered my first comic book store and started reading Spawn and Street Fighter comics. All the while looking for a tattoo artist to get my first tattoo. This book ferried me through college. All the drawings are too light like I was afraid to commit.

AiFL gifted Andrew his first sketchbook in his Senior Year in High School. Once he received, he never stopped drawing in books. Please, enjoy his art journals.
